What is the acronym for nursing exam?
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of nursing degree programs, let's talk about the acronym elephant in the room: the NCLEX. The NCLEX, or National Council Licensure Examination, is a test every nursing student must pass to earn their RN license.
- APRN - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse.
- LVN - Licensed Vocational Nurse.
- NP - Nurse Practitioner.
- RN - Registered Nurse.
- ACNP - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
- CNS - Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- ANP - Adult Nurse Practitioner.
NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination, and it is a test used to determine if recently graduated nursing students are safe to practice.
There are so many acronyms for nursing and on the NCLEX!
BSN: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Nurses in a BSN program learn advanced clinical skills and knowledge that prepare them for higher-level roles in the health care field.

“OOB” is a medical abbreviation that means “out of bed” and is something we aim for with all of our patients. Getting a patient out of bed helps improve their wellbeing and prevents complications of immobility, like bed sores or pneumonia.
The number of questions on each NCLEX® exam will vary depending on how well you answer each question. The minimum number of questions is 75 and the maximum is 145. If you answer most of the questions correctly, then you could pass the test after answering only the minimum of 75.
The 2023 passing standard for the NCLEX-RN is 0.00 logits and -0.18 logits for the NCLEX-PN. Want to Know the Secret to Passing the NCLEX®?
You've finished nursing school. Your next step is to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) so you can practice as a licensed registered nurse (RN). The NCLEX is a unique test that requires careful planning.
What are the two types of NCLEX?
1 | There Are Two Types of NCLEX Examinations
The NCLEX-PN evaluates aspiring practical nurses also known as licensed practical nurses or licensed vocational nurses. The NCLEX-RN tests registered nursing candidates. The two tests are similar in some regards, but they come with key differences.
The Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) is a new version of the NCLEX that is designed to assess clinical judgment in nursing candidates.
Any registered nurse with or without a BSN has passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) exam and obtained nursing licensure. The distinguishing difference between a BSN nurse and an RN is that BSNs hold a bachelor's degree in nursing while RNs have an associate degree.
There are no official regulations on how to write your RN BSN signature. In fact, there are situations when you should display your nursing degrees and accreditation differently. Here are Professor Maier's takeaways on whether you write RN or BSN first. In either instance, list your certifications last.

In December 2022, the board voted to uphold the current passing standard of 0.00 logits for the NCLEX-RN Examination and -0.18 logits for the NCLEX-PN through March 31, 2026. This means that while the Next Gen NCLEX has a new scoring system, the NCLEX passing standard will remain the same for the next three years.
If candidates answer questions right about half the time (50%), they will have a logit of 0.0. This is the NCLEX passing score; less than that is a fail, and a higher number is a stronger result, although the exam itself is pass/fail.
If you happen not to pass the exam, you can retake it after 45 days. And if you are wondering how often you can take the NCLEX, the NCSBN retake policy allows for a retake eight times a year, ensuring 45 exam-free days between each test.
And this is what I said in my show before, if you are a high performing student, the next gen NCLEX will be much very much easier for you. But if you're in the moderate the low performing student, it might cause you to fail the exam more.
